And of course you need to incorporate and exercise program and stick too it. I use the 10 minute trainer CD's thanks to my buddy Chad Pink who owns Zilla Fitness.

Summer Weight Loss Foods
Summer Weight Loss Foods
When it comes to nutrition, summer diet tip is to look for foods that will hydrate the body, as well as replenish energy sources. Summer weight loss plans are a success with a good exercise program, outdoor activities and a lighter food intake. Summer time is the easiest time to lose weight as the sunshine drives me to be outside and gives my muscles more reasons to be active.
Water
How often do you hear that water will help you lose weight? It will, especially in the summer months. Try to drink more water during hot summer days, especially if you will be active or exercising. Try adding lemon juice to bottled water for a different and refreshing taste.
Pineapple
My favorite summer fruit is a ripe pineapple. Pineapples can be cut up and enjoyed in a fresh fruit salad or they can be grilled. A grilled pineapple is delicious as a side, as its natural juices come out when cooked. It can be paired up with beef or shrimp kebobs for a nutritious and healthy dinner idea.
Salads
A salad will always be a healthy option, but salads can get boring which then might steer you in the direction of that macaroni and cheese again. Do not get discouraged with boring salads, add grilled chicken leftovers or add in seasonal vegetables to boring old lettuces. Bean salads can be a different take on a healthy meal idea.
Sweet Corn
Few things say summer like freshly picked corn on the cob. And if you love carbs and have a tough time fighting off the urge to nosh them nonstop then this is the veggie for you. Each cob contains three grams of appetite-taming protein, plus 138 milligrams of phenylalanine an amino acid that quickly soaks into brain cells, where it dampens carb cravings for up to three hours.
Greens
Greens like kale and spinach are full of essential vitamins and dietary fiber, so they help regulate digestion and move food through the body quickly. And the good news is there is no such thing as too much greens! Try to incorporate more greens throughout your day, like having a green juice for breakfast, a raw kale salad for lunch, and lightly sauteed spinach with garlic alongside dinner.
Have a healthy and productive day!

Bananas and the benefits! Yum!
Bananas are one of America’s favorite fruits. In fact, on average, we eat more than 20 pounds of bananas per person, per year! That’s good news because bananas are nutrient-rich and are not only diet-friendly they offer other a wide variety of health benefits. For example, did you know that bananas might actually help you feel happy, or that the smell of bananas can help curb your hunger?
Here are 10 facts about bananas that might have been flying under the radar.
They’re Diet-Friendly
A medium banana is 110 calories and provides 30 grams of carbs and 3 grams fiber. In addition to filling fiber, bananas contain resistant starch, a type of carbohydrate you can’t digest, but helps you feel fuller longer. A banana can have 2-3 grams of resistant starch (the greener it is, the more resistant startch it contains). This makes them a great mid-afternoon snack, or a perfect pre-workout snack if you eat them 1 hour before your workout.

They May Supress Your Appetite
Bet we have your attention now. Yes, according to a study performed at the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, smelling certain foods when you are hungry can trick you brain into thinking that you’ve actually eaten them. One of those foods is bananas. If that’s not enough to convince you that you can enjoy bananas while losing weight, smell one next time you are hungry.
They’re Natural Performance Enhancers
There may be a reason why most of the world’s best athletes love bananas. Olympian Yohan Blake reportedly eats 16 bananas a day! A recent study from Appalachian State University’s Human Performance Lab found that consuming half a banana every 15 minutes during a cycling time trial test was as effective as drinking a carbohydrate matched sports drink every 15 minutes. If you’re active, bananas are a great option to fuel your muscles while providing antioxidants and other nutrients sports drinks lack.
They Are Portable and Versatile
Bananas are an incredible versatile fruit that can be eaten on-the-go or used in tons delicous recipes, from smoothies to baked goods. We are tempted to say that there is not a single banana recipe we met that we didn’t like, but that would be pushing it. For a healthy dessert option try this: get a couple of ounces of dark chocolate (over 70 percent) and melt it. Slice up a banana and dip each slice in the chocolate until they are fully covered. Place them in a container lined with parchment paper, and put it in the freezer. Let them freeze and enjoy a slice as a snack or dessert.
They Give you a Boost of Vitamin C
It is usually oranges and strawberries that come to mind when think about Vitamin C, but a serving of bananas provides 15 percent of the daily requirement for vitamin C. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that helps neutralize damaging free radicals and helps keep systemic inflammation at bay. It also helps produce collagen that holds muscles, bones and other tissues together. And helps keep blood vessels healthy and is needed to optimally absorb iron and folate and keeps your gums healthy and aids in healing.

They Provide Vitamin B6
Maybe the saying should be “ a banana a day, keeps the doctor away.” Bananas contain 20 percent of the daily requirements of vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 helps the body make nonessential amino acids to create healthy cells. It also helps produce insulin, hemoglobin and antibodies that help fight infections.

They Relieve GI Distress
Feeling a little under the weather? Bananas are great because they’re easy to digest and considered non-irritating for the stomach and upper GI tract. That’s why they’re part of the clinical BRAT diet–, bananas, rice, applesauce and dry toast–which is a diet plan registered dietitians use when patients have acute diarrhea. They are also one of the first fruits that are introduced to young children when they start eating solid foods.

They Can Blood Pressure-Lowering Potassium
A medium banana has 422 mg potassium while being sodium-free. The high potassium:sodium ratio helps to neutralize the blood-pressure raising effects of sodium in your diet. Various studies show that those who have diets rich in potassium are less likely to have high blood pressure and have reduced risk for stroke. Adults need 4,700 milligrams of potassium a day, so a medium banana provides nearly 10 percent of the daily requirement.

They Can Help you Feel Happy
How about having a banana to help you feel peachy? A small banana provides 27 mg magnesium, which may help boost mood and reduce feeling blue. Men and women need 420 mg and 320 mg of the mineral per day, respectively. Low levels of this mineral are linked to depression, anxiety, irritability and other mood disorders. Since many of us don’t get enough magnesium in our diets, consider a banana as your chill pill.
They Can Be Ripened at Home
If you are at the store and all of the ripe bananas are gone, don’t fret. Here is a tip to make them ripen faster. Place the bananas in a paper bag with an apple, pear or tomato. The ethylene gas that the those fruits emit will accelerate the ripening process. Check them daily until they are as ripe as you like them.

Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and had a great time with family and friends. I'll have to admit I did jump off the weight loss band wagon with some good food and drinks all weekend. Surprisingly I still held my weight at 175 pounds. I did eat lighter than normal eating only portions of different foods like I have trained myself. I think three things are key to losing weight and keeping it off.
- Be consistent with your exercise program and keep track of your daily exercise routine.
- Find a way to track your weight and calories, and weigh in only once during the day. (I think in the morning is the best time right after you get up.)
- Portion your meals. You can still enjoy some of your favorite foods on occasion, just eat a small portion of these foods. Also, adding fruits and veggies are vital. I tend to have a salad every other day.
I hope you have a great week and stay healthy! :)

Benefits of Raw Food Diets
What is a raw food diet?
A raw food diet consists of unprocessed and uncooked food or if cooked, then below 116 deg F heat. This is because above this temperature, the vital life force elements and the enzymes of the food start getting destroyed.
Is raw food diet totally free of toxins and hazardous chemicals?
Even the raw food diet of today times are not devoid of chemicals and toxins as the soil itself in which they grow has become polluted. But the solution to the above mentioned problem is the organic food that can be grown in your backyard with the organic seeds and organic manure.
Organic is the term used for the fruits and vegetables grown in the soil without using any chemical pesticide and insecticide.
How cooked food different from a Raw food diet?
- Cooked food diminishes in nutritional value. The cancer-fighting compounds in broccoli, sulforaphanes, are greatly reduced when broccoli is cooked.
- Certain vitamins, such as vitamin C and folate, are destroyed by heat.
- Other foods, however, become more healthful after cooking, because the fibrous portion is broken down. For example, cooked tomatoes contain three to four times more lycopene than raw tomatoes.
- Cooking also promotes the formation of potentially harmful compounds in food during high heat cooking, such as advanced glycation end products and heterocyclic amines.
What the raw food eating benefits?
Raw food is live food therefore the person who eats this also becomes live and with vitality. These are the benefits associated with the raw food.
Energy
The abundance of vitamins and minerals and the lack of empty calories will combine to make you feel lighter, happier, and more energetic about the raw food. You may even find you have better-quality sleep, smoother skin, and a sharper memory.
Digestion
The fiber and enzymes in raw food also help ease your body’s digestive process.
Weight loss
The natural ingredients like nuts and seeds as well as fruits and vegetables all have the high content of protein and healthy fats which are extremely filling. These are no extra unutilized fats that get accumulated in the body.
Longevity
A raw diet naturally supports the immune system, decreases inflammation, and floods your body with free-radical-deactivating antioxidants thereby decreasing your body susceptibility to the common cold, flu, cancer, diabetes etc. This helps you to remain disease free and attain longer life span filled with health and vigor.
What to eat in a raw food diet?
Most people who follow a raw food diet are vegan. Some consume raw animal products, such as raw milk, cheese made from raw milk, sashimi, ceviche (raw fish), or carpaccio (raw meat). Some people eat only raw foods, while others include cooked food for variety and convenience. The percentage of raw food is usually 70 percent or more of the diet.
How a raw food is prepared?
Germination
This process involves soaking the raw beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds in water for some period of time .It ranges from 2 hours to one day.
Sprouting
After they are drained during the final step of the germination process, place them in a container for sprouting. Leave them at room temperature for the recommended time. The seed, bean, or legume will open and a sprout will grow from it.
Dehydrate
Foods can be heated below 118 F in a dehydrator instrument to warm.
Blending
Foods can be blended or chopped using a food processor or blender, to make recipes for smoothies, pesto, soup, hummus.
What are the benefits of a raw food diet?
A raw food diet is beneficial in numerous ways including:

Diabetes-Postive Results in 6 Weeks With Shaklee
Here is another awesome testimonial on diabetes and how Shaklee helped naturally to combat this disease.
Enjoy!
When my daughter was born, I developed adult onset diabetes. For 20 years I have been taking medication and trying to watch my diet. I am 61 years old and walk almost every day. My energy levels were low and the skin on my elbows crack and almost bleed. I also had fatty tissue lumps under my skin on my arms. Recently my doctor wanted to start me on insulin shots because she said that my diabetes was not under control and the pills would no longer work. I was taking Rezulin and had to have my liver tested monthly for toxic side effects to the tune of $100.
I decided to sit in on an “I Love Dieting” session and thought that maybe this type of diet was for me. I started the diet the next day and continued to take my blood sugar several times a day. Here are my test results before the diet and 6 weeks after starting on the diet:
- Cholesterol were 223 now 175
- HDL (good) were 56 now 58
- Triglycerides were 305 now 158
- LDL were 106 now 85
As you can see, I have had great results in just 6 weeks. My vital statistics have improved and my outlook on life is brighter. When my doctor saw these results, she cut my medication from 400 mg to 200 mg. I was so happy. But I want to tell you how my life has changed. In the area where we live, it is quite hilly. I used to dread walking and had to stop because I was out of breath. Now I can walk easily and enjoy looking at the trees and listening to the birds. What a difference! I have more energy and am not always thinking about food. I am not hungry on this diet. My beauty operator even said she noticed a difference for the better on my hair texture and fingernails. The skin on my elbows is now like baby skin and I no longer have lumps on my arms.
I am taking Vita-E Plus, Vita-Lea, Alfalfa, Lecithin, B-Complex, Shaklee 180 Weight Loss Program with Instant Protein and Fiber everyday and it sure is helping. Also, I love the Fiber Crunch for breakfast in the Slim Plan.
It is now 12 weeks into the diet and I have lost 17 1/2 pounds and 10 1/2 inches. I feel wonderful. I have surpassed my goal. I haven’t weighed this little since high school.. This last time I was at the doctor, my doctor looked at the ingredients in the supplements I’m taking and said stay on everything. It’s working for you. The best news of all is this last week my doctor said I no longer have to be on Rezulin and may soon be taken off of the 6 mg. of Prandin. Hooray!

Fruit for Weight Loss
Now that summer is approaching we are many, and many, which we intend to lose those extra pounds you have gained over the winter. So we’ve put aside a sedentary lifestyle and we’re getting into shape, whether in the gym, with machines like the elliptical trainer which, incidentally, has many benefits, and working out at home or outdoors.
But exercise is not worth anything if you do not follow a healthy and balanced diet, which included slimming foods, such as lettuce, which has many benefits. Other foods that cannot miss in your diet are fruits, especially apples, orange, blackberry and pear, further helping to lose weight as long as they are consumed in a certain way. Here we give more details!
Apples

Feel Better Now!
Confused about which vitamins to take? Women's bodies have very special nutritional needs; they typically need fewer calories but more nutrients than men to be at their best. Unfortunately most women aren't getting enough necessary nutrients.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
Women place a large demand for nutrients on their bodies as they negotiate a busy world full of stress and toxins. Eating on the run, too many processed and prepared foods, and not enough fresh foods adds up to more calories and less nutrientsii (exactly the opposite of what women need).
Not getting the right nutrients can actually increase your risk for many long term diseasesiii, but not having enough nutrients also means that you probably don't feel at your best right now.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Here are the top nutrients every woman could use:
A Multivitamin is a great place to start to support overall well-being and can help fill in the gaps in your diet. A good multivitamin for women will have iron (if you are still menstruating), folic acid if you are planning to get pregnant, and a good mixture of antioxidants.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids (EPA/DHA) are almost non-existent in our diets. Omega 3s calm inflammation and that is part of the reason why they are so helpful to women. EPA/DHA has been shown in studies to be important for memory,iv heart,v mood, and even for healthy-looking skin. Most doctors recommend around 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams of EPA/ DHA a day.
Calcium and Magnesium: Peak bone mass in women occurs somewhere around 30 years old. That makes calcium an important nutrient to include in your diet or take as a supplement. Your bones, however, are more than just calcium. Magnesium is just as important as calcium in building strong bones and vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium from the digestive tract. Zinc, copper and manganese are needed for building bone.
B Vitamins: Everyday life (with its stress, toxins) puts great demands on our bodies for extra B vitamins. The B vitamins act as coenzymes and are indispensable for metabolism. It is hard to name a system in the body where B vitamins are not needed. They are part of the immune system, the creation of red blood cells, reproductive system, brain, and energy production.
These essential nutrients can make a change in your long-term health, but they are also important to help you feel better now.
Have a healthy and productive Friday!

Don’t Be Duped by “Healthy” or “Low Fat” Fast Food
Recent television commercials would suggest that fast food outlets have embraced the consumer’s want for more healthy options on the menu. We see young, vibrant customers selecting tasty, healthy looking meals, and hear menus rich with words such as “light,” “low fat,” and “healthy” lunchtime options. But a recent study suggests that the well-known franchises introducing so-called “healthy” alternatives have barely scratched the surface of the changes needed to make their foods truly healthy.
Fast Food: An American Obsession
With as many as a quarter of the population opting to eat fast food as many as three times per week, there, no wonder there is an obesity epidemic in America. The land of hamburgers and pizza sees a regular diet of excessive fats, sugars and salt as the norm. As a result, diet-related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes are at an all-time high.
The Need for Change
Most adults are aware of the need for change. Fast food giants, desperate to keep their grip on the wallets of the country have begun to introduce healthier options. But few of these options are as healthy as the fast food chains would like us to believe. In fact, avoiding fast food altogether is still the best way to make healthier meal choices.
Studying the Menu
A recent investigation into the nutritional quality of the food available in eight of the country’s most popular fast food restaurants found some interesting facts. They examined the menus dating back as far as 1997 to better understand the healthful changes these companies claimed to have made. Using the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Healthy Eating Index (HEI), they measured the nutritional quality of the menu items.
What the Researchers Found
A healthy diet should receive a HEI score of over 60; the higher the number the better the food choice. The menus that came from the eight leading fast food outlets averaged a score of 48, a rather disturbing result. The study found that over the fourteen years examined, each of the eight restaurants did show a slight improvement. In most cases, it was a meager seven-point increase. There was very little increase in vegetables, grains, whole grains and healthy oils. Sadly, when it came to low-fat milk and dairy options, and low-sodium, there was very little change in any of the menus.
New “Healthy” Choices Aren’t Enough
Eating out is a huge part of the American lifestyle. Fast food giants have the power to turn the health of the nation around. It’s not a matter of denying people their favorite foods; it’s more about making better choices available.
Simply by avoiding trans-fats and using better cooking techniques the menu items transform into healthier meals. Downsizing meal deals, incorporating more vegetables and salads in burgers and wraps, reducing the amount of deep-fried foods and halving the amount of salt added to foods is a start.
Providing low-fat, low-sugar options and using more whole grain and fresh foods not only makes a more healthful meal, it actually promises more flavor. Customers should continue to demand healthy options. Ask for more vegetables, less fries and drinks that come with no added sugar. After all, it’s your body and your choice. Don’t be duped by the healthy illusion of what’s on offer.
Have a healthy and productive day!

Feeling Fatigued?
Fatigue and lack of energy is one of the more common complaints a doctor hears from patients. If you find you don't have the energy you used to have, there is a lot you can do right now to get back on track to a more energetic you.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
It is no surprise that women are tired; they are busier than ever. Many are juggling work, children, family and endless responsibilities — it is a recipe for fatigue. All of this hustle means that women are not taking care of themselves; not eating right, not getting enough nutrients, nor are they getting enough exercise or sleep.
Our busy lives leave us with low energy, irritability, stress, worn down immune systems, and may even lead more serious conditions like depression.
WHAT CAN I DO?
You might think that drinking coffee or taking other stimulants is a solution, but these are only temporary fixes that often lead to more fatigue in the future. If you are looking for a better way to ensure your long-term energy needs, try these energy boosters:
Exercise is an important part of your fatigue-fighting routine. Research has shown that regular exercise releases endorphins which help us feel good and exercise has been shown to reduce tiredness.
Getting a good night's sleep is one of the best tools in your fatigue-fighting arsenal. Try going to bed at the same time every day, avoiding caffeine late in the day, or read a book instead of watching TV.
Food is the fuel for your body; try eating healthier, avoiding sugar and processed foods, and don't skip meals.
Take care of yourself. A massage, lunch with friends, a walk in the woods can all help. Take time during the day to relax (even 10 minutes alone can help).
Supplementation:
Multivitamin: even if you try to eat healthy, you may be lacking some key nutrients, so a good multivitamin is a great place to start.
B-Vitamins (including B12 and folate) are important in many metabolic processes in the body and have long been used for people looking for energy. In a study, supplementing with extra B vitamins improved energy, stress, mental health, and improve cognitive performance.
Magnesium deficiency is one of the more common deficiencies in America, with close to half of people in the US not getting enough.iii Magnesium is required for over 300 processes in the body, including the breakdown of glucose into energy. The best form of magnesium to take is a time-release formula; to ensure a steady stream of magnesium.
Iron is an important mineral for women who are still menstruating and low iron can lead to lack of energy, especially in young women who have heavy menstrual bleeding.
Your lack of energy can be turned around with a little effort and good nutritional supplementation. Remember that fatigue can be a sign of an underlying condition. If your fatigue persists, check with your health care provider.

Women and Stress
May is Nation Women's Health Month and women are stressed more now than ever and this increased stress may be harming their health. Most women hit the ground running early in the morning and don't let up until late at night, trying to balance work, family, and home life.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
A survey of women has shown that they tend to experience physical symptoms of stress more than men.i Stress in women is thought to contribute to a number of conditions including Irritable Bowel Syndrome,ii frequent colds, iii insomnia, poor mental performance, and even weight gain.iv
WHAT CAN I DO?
The first thing to do is recognize the early signs of stress. When you have identified your triggers then you can take action to calm yourself.
Try the following:
Recognize the signs: Loss of appetite, increased appetite, headaches, crying, sleeplessness, and oversleeping are all signs that you may be too stressed.
Relax: Deep breathing, exercise, and meditation are all helpful.
Control what you can: Focus on what you can get done and then let the rest of it go. You will never be able to accomplish everything you want to.
Exercise: The stress response is also known as the "fight or flight" response, meaning that when you feel stress, your body is ready for action. Exercising has been shown to help with stress and anxiety.
Supplementation: there are many nutrients that can help with stress reduction.
L-Theanine is an amino acid which is known to help reduce stress.vi It works on the brain to help people feel relaxed but not drowsy.
Ashwagandha is an herb that has been studied to help reduce stress in humans.vii
Beta Sitosterol is a natural plant sterol and that has helped reduce the increase in cortisol in normally seen in stressed athletes.viii
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid used by the body to create the neurotransmitter norepinephrine and has helped to prevent a decline in cognitive function in response to physical stress.
One of the hardest things for many women to do is to think of themselves first, but taking care of yourself and reducing your stress is a great way to be present and available to the people around you.
