Top Three Sugar Foods!

Sugar intake in extreme quantities is extremely hazardous to the health. This is because high sugar consumption has a number of unfavorable effects on health. Suppression of the immune system, advertising of swelling, suppression of the launch of human growth hormone and spike in insulin levels are just a few of the negative results of sugar on one’s health. In fact, high sugar intake is associated with lots of health issues like diabetes.
You may be unaware that high sugar foods are a staple component of your diet plan. These foods may be sabotaging your wellness and causing weight gain without you understanding. Below are the leading 5 high sugar foods to avoid:

Soda and other Carbonated Drinks
A can of soft drink can contain approximately 15 teaspoons of sugar and up to 300 calories. This is certainly at the top amongst the high sugar foods to avoid. 3 soft drinks a day amounts to around 900 calories or the everyday calorie maintenance for an average pre-teen child. Significantly, it’s much better to replace water and beverage as much water as you desire throughout the day.
In fact, drinking water helps enhance the metabolic process helping in weight loss. Soft drink and other carbonated drinks like energy beverages aren’t simply filled with sugar but also consist of harmful chemicals, fabricated food colors and flavoring. Even healthy juice beverages are normally fulled of sugar to make it taste great.
Doughnuts
Doughnuts are deep fried starches that are filled with sugar. This is also among the leading high sugar foods to stay clear of for your wellness. This is considered an easy sugar food choice that’s full of empty calories and sugar. Doughnuts don’t make you feel complete so you need to consume a lot to feel pleased. The worst part is that one doughnut consists of about 200-400 calories mainly from sugar. This means that if you consume 3, the calorie equivalent is currently the exact same with a full meal.
High Sugar Cereals
This is a breakfast staple of the majority of children and adults. The most popular breakfast grains are packed with basic sugars that help you start your day with high energy however causes troubles later during the day. Most of the morning meal grains contain around 12-15 grams of sugar per serving. This is certainly one of the leading high sugar foods to avoid for better wellness. The very best alternative would be to eat oatmeal or entire grain cereals with some fresh fruit.
These are just 3 examples that top the list of high sugar foods to stay clear of. The reality is there are a lot more! Do your legwork and research. It’s not yet late to alter your diet into hale and hearty food selections.

Have a healthy and productive day!

Weight Loss Benefit Of Jogging: How To Get Rid Of Love Handles

Use the benefit of jogging exercise to lose love handles
If you are anything like I was many years ago you might describe yourself as 'cuddly' or 'huggable'. Anything to disguise the fact that you're a little overweight and have a few rolls of unsightly fat around your middle. If this is you then you might want to learn the secret of how to get rid of love handles.
Sorry, there's no secret way to eliminate love handles but I can tell you about how I managed to lose my love handle fat. It didn't happen overnight and I did have to work at it but slowly the fat around my middle and other parts of my body started to melt away and I've managed to stay reasonably lean for many years now.

Nutrition and exercise is the key to losing love handles
I didn't know much about nutrition and exercise at the time and I still don't know that much but I did know that you need to do some exercise. Any exercise is better than none right? I also knew that the more calories you eat the more fat accumulates on your body. I've no idea why it all seems to go on around your middle first but it seems to be very common.
The first thing I did was cut down the size of my meals to reduce my calorie intake. This is very difficult to do if you have a low metabolism like I do because you don't have to eat much before you start putting on weight. This means that you probably don't eat much to start with. You can also make adjustments to the things you eat to help you lose fat. For more about nutrition see this article: Food To Help You Lose Weight.
The next step is to introduce some regular exercise. This will burn off some of the calories that you consume allowing you to at least eat something. When you decide what type of exercise you are going to do you should pick something that you'll enjoy doing and can see yourself doing regularly and consistently. That way you'll be able to keep it up for a long time to come.

Jogging to lose weight
I chose to start jogging. I wanted to lose body fat all over but I was most concerned about my love handles. I also knew that I would enjoy jogging in the park along the riverbank. Pleasant surroundings is a definite bonus and incentive to keep going as are the occasions when I happen to meet a girl jogging and swap weight loss notes.

Your weight loss from jogging
Exactly how many calories you'll burn by jogging depends on a number of factors. The heavier you are and the faster you run, the more calories you'll burn. A rule of thumb estimate suggests that jogging for weight loss will burn off roughly 10 calories per minute. You can use this estimate to work out how much jogging you are going to need to do.
The calorie burned jogging in 30-minutes 6 times a week will be roughly 1800 calories a week. Another rough rule of thumb suggests that 1 pound of body fat is equal to 3500 calories. At this rate you should lose about 1 pound of weight every 2 weeks, which is a very slow but healthy way to lose weight. This assumes of course that your weight was stable before you took up the exercise and that you don't eat more than you did before.
It was a slow process but over time it did show me how to get rid of love handles because they eventually disappeared. I still enjoy the jogging to this day and my love handles have never returned.

Have A healthy and productive day!

Plant Based Diets Help Reduce Chronic Diseases!

Things we know: populations that eat primarily plant-based diets have lower risk for most chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer.  But the reasons for this remain a mystery.  Is it fiber?  Vitamins?  Lower saturated fat?  Some unidentified phytochemical?

The most likely answer is that it’s all of the above, and then some.  Meanwhile, a recent study identified another plant component, called apigenin, that appears to play a role in disrupting cancer cells.  Normal cells have a defined life span, controlled by genes that initiate cell death.  Cancer cells evade this programmed cell death, and keep on growing out of control.  Apigenin, binds to certain proteins in cultured cancer cells, and shutting off the out of control growth.

Does labeling food “healthy” lead to overeating?  A new study says Yes.  When given a choice of healthy or regular coleslaw, subjects took and ate more of the healthy coleslaw.  In fact, the 2 coleslaw choices were exactly the same.  When asked to estimate how many calories were in their portion, they underestimated the calories for the Healthy item.

Speaking of plant based diets, another study shows that the Mediterranean Diet helps the aging brain.  This study, from Spain, followed over 500 people who were 55 or older.  One group ate a traditional Mediterranean Diet with olive oil, the other ate a Mediterranean diet with nuts, and the third group age a low fat diet.  The subjects took cognition tests at the beginning and then 6-1/2 years later.  Of the people who had developed mild cognitive decline, more of them were on the low fat diet.  Of the subjects who had developed dementia, more were on the low fat diet.

There’s no downside to a plant based diet.  We may not know exactly why it’s healthy, but at some point, trying to pick out individual beneficial plant components is less important than encouraging the overall diet pattern.

Benefits of Raw Food Diets

What is a raw food diet?

A raw food diet consists of unprocessed and uncooked food or if cooked, then below 116 deg F heat. This is because above this temperature, the vital life force elements and the enzymes of the food start getting destroyed.

Is raw food diet totally free of toxins and hazardous chemicals?

Even the raw food diet of today times are not devoid of chemicals and toxins as the soil itself in which they grow has become polluted. But the solution to the above mentioned problem is the organic food that can be grown in your backyard with the organic seeds and organic manure.
Organic is the term used for the fruits and vegetables grown in the soil without using any chemical pesticide and insecticide.

How cooked food different from a Raw food diet?

  • Cooked food diminishes in nutritional value. The cancer-fighting compounds in broccoli, sulforaphanes, are greatly reduced when broccoli is cooked.
  • Certain vitamins, such as vitamin C and folate, are destroyed by heat.
  • Other foods, however, become more healthful after cooking, because the fibrous portion is broken down. For example, cooked tomatoes contain three to four times more lycopene than raw tomatoes.
  • Cooking also promotes the formation of potentially harmful compounds in food during high heat cooking, such as advanced glycation end products and heterocyclic amines.
What the raw food eating benefits?

Raw food is live food therefore the person who eats this also becomes live and with vitality. These are the benefits associated with the raw food.

Energy
The abundance of vitamins and minerals and the lack of empty calories will combine to make you feel lighter, happier, and more energetic about the raw food.  You may even find you have better-quality sleep, smoother skin, and a sharper memory.
Digestion
The fiber and enzymes in raw food also help ease your body’s digestive process.

Weight loss
The natural ingredients like nuts and seeds as well as fruits and vegetables all have the high content of protein and healthy fats which are extremely filling. These are no extra unutilized fats that get accumulated in the body.

Longevity
A raw diet naturally supports the immune system, decreases inflammation, and floods your body with free-radical-deactivating antioxidants thereby decreasing your body susceptibility to the common cold, flu, cancer, diabetes etc. This helps you to remain disease free and attain longer life span filled with health and vigor.

What to eat in a raw food diet?

Most people who follow a raw food diet are vegan. Some consume raw animal products, such as raw milk, cheese made from raw milk, sashimi, ceviche (raw fish), or carpaccio (raw meat). Some people eat only raw foods, while others include cooked food for variety and convenience. The percentage of raw food is usually 70 percent or more of the diet.

How a raw food is prepared?

Germination
This process involves soaking the raw beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds in water for some period of time .It ranges from 2 hours to one day.

Sprouting
After they are drained during the final step of the germination process, place them in a container for sprouting. Leave them at room temperature for the recommended time. The seed, bean, or legume will open and a sprout will grow from it.

Dehydrate
Foods can be heated below 118 F in a dehydrator instrument to warm.

Blending
Foods can be blended or chopped using a food processor or blender, to make recipes for smoothies, pesto, soup, hummus.

What are the benefits of a raw food diet?

A raw food diet is beneficial in numerous ways including:
  • Increased energy
  • Clearer skin
  • Weight loss
  • Reduced risk of disease
  • Slows the aging process
  • Reduce inflammation

Don’t Be Duped by “Healthy” or “Low Fat” Fast Food

Recent television commercials would suggest that fast food outlets have embraced the consumer’s want for more healthy options on the menu. We see young, vibrant customers selecting tasty, healthy looking meals, and hear menus rich with words such as “light,” “low fat,” and “healthy” lunchtime options. But a recent study suggests that the well-known franchises introducing so-called “healthy” alternatives have barely scratched the surface of the changes needed to make their foods truly healthy.

Fast Food: An American Obsession
With as many as a quarter of the population opting to eat fast food as many as three times per week, there, no wonder there is an obesity epidemic in America. The land of hamburgers and pizza sees a regular diet of excessive fats, sugars and salt as the norm. As a result, diet-related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes are at an all-time high.

The Need for Change
Most adults are aware of the need for change. Fast food giants, desperate to keep their grip on the wallets of the country have begun to introduce healthier options. But few of these options are as healthy as the fast food chains would like us to believe. In fact, avoiding fast food altogether is still the best way to make healthier meal choices.

Studying the Menu
A recent investigation into the nutritional quality of the food available in eight of the country’s most popular fast food restaurants found some interesting facts. They examined the menus dating back as far as 1997 to better understand the healthful changes these companies claimed to have made. Using the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Healthy Eating Index (HEI), they measured the nutritional quality of the menu items.

What the Researchers Found
A healthy diet should receive a HEI score of over 60; the higher the number the better the food choice. The menus that came from the eight leading fast food outlets averaged a score of 48, a rather disturbing result. The study found that over the fourteen years examined, each of the eight restaurants did show a slight improvement. In most cases, it was a meager seven-point increase. There was very little increase in vegetables, grains, whole grains and healthy oils. Sadly, when it came to low-fat milk and dairy options, and low-sodium, there was very little change in any of the menus.

New “Healthy” Choices Aren’t Enough
Eating out is a huge part of the American lifestyle. Fast food giants have the power to turn the health of the nation around. It’s not a matter of denying people their favorite foods; it’s more about making better choices available.
Simply by avoiding trans-fats and using better cooking techniques the menu items transform into healthier meals. Downsizing meal deals, incorporating more vegetables and salads in burgers and wraps, reducing the amount of deep-fried foods and halving the amount of salt added to foods is a start.
Providing low-fat, low-sugar options and using more whole grain and fresh foods not only makes a more healthful meal, it actually promises more flavor. Customers should continue to demand healthy options. Ask for more vegetables, less fries and drinks that come with no added sugar. After all, it’s your body and your choice. Don’t be duped by the healthy illusion of what’s on offer.

Have a healthy and productive day!

Women and Stress

May is Nation Women's Health Month and women are stressed more now than ever and this increased stress may be harming their health. Most women hit the ground running early in the morning and don't let up until late at night, trying to balance work, family, and home life.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
A survey of women has shown that they tend to experience physical symptoms of stress more than men.i Stress in women is thought to contribute to a number of conditions including Irritable Bowel Syndrome,ii frequent colds, iii insomnia, poor mental performance, and even weight gain.iv
WHAT CAN I DO?
The first thing to do is recognize the early signs of stress. When you have identified your triggers then you can take action to calm yourself.
Try the following:
Recognize the signs: Loss of appetite, increased appetite, headaches, crying, sleeplessness, and oversleeping are all signs that you may be too stressed.
Relax: Deep breathing, exercise, and meditation are all helpful.
Control what you can: Focus on what you can get done and then let the rest of it go. You will never be able to accomplish everything you want to.
Exercise: The stress response is also known as the "fight or flight" response, meaning that when you feel stress, your body is ready for action. Exercising has been shown to help with stress and anxiety.

Supplementation: there are many nutrients that can help with stress reduction.

L-Theanine is an amino acid which is known to help reduce stress.vi It works on the brain to help people feel relaxed but not drowsy.

Ashwagandha is an herb that has been studied to help reduce stress in humans.vii

Beta Sitosterol is a natural plant sterol and that has helped reduce the increase in cortisol in normally seen in stressed athletes.viii

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid used by the body to create the neurotransmitter norepinephrine and has helped to prevent a decline in cognitive function in response to physical stress.

One of the hardest things for many women to do is to think of themselves first, but taking care of yourself and reducing your stress is a great way to be present and available to the people around you. Shaklee has many helpful products to deal with this daily stress. Check them out at http://mjshealthyway.com

Exercising and Eating Right During Weight Loss

Hello all, many of you have learned that I have lost 35 pounds going from 209 to 174 pounds over the last year and a half using the Shaklee 180 Weight Loss Program. It did play a big part in my weight loss  success, but consistent exercise and portioning my meals also played a big part in my weight loss success.

I will share my success with you all, you don't have to do exactly what I did, but I think this will help guide you in the right direction to create a better you!

1. Find a weight loss program and stick to it. I chose the Shaklee 180 Weight Loss Program because of the reputation of this company(57 years) and the clinical studies that backed this program. Shaklee is not a fly-by-night weight loss system compared to Herbalife and ViSalus, so do your research wisely.

2. Find an exercise program and stick to it! I found an exercise program through a friend who is a Beachbody Coach. I took his recommended workout and tied it in with my own exercises routine and created a road map for my success. Walk, run, do yoga, keep it moving. Personalize your workout, do want you like to do. I started my routine by purchasing the 10 Minute Trainer from Zilla Fitness, and sticking to the 30 day workout. Have fun with it, and most of all, find a support team or friends and family looking to make the same changes. Make a spreadsheet, check off what you have accomplished on your sheet each day! This helps keep YOU accountable for yourself. The more you exercise, the less sickness and disease you will have.

3. Portion your meals.  We all know fruits a vegetables are perfect during a weight loss program, but what about your other meals? Plan ahead and portion your meals. If you look on a box, it does have a recommended portion for the food. This helps in counting calories to keep yourself accountable. So if you have that smartphone, throw a calorie counter app on it. Most of them are free. This is the prefect way to track your exercise and calories. That's another reason I love the Shaklee 180 app because I am able to track both food and exercise. NO FAST FOOD AND SODA! You will feel so much better and full of energy by cutting out these two items. I have made it a goal to have 1 12oz soda a week. Setting your limits and goals from the start will help you succeed!

So in closing, I gave you some ideas to make a better you, but it is up to you to make these lifestyle changes. My picture proves what dedication and hard work can accomplish! You can do it!

Good Luck with the happy new you!
