A day in a life with Shaklee 180

This is a guest post written by Maggie Smith of Dexter’s Super Savvy Mommy. Maggie was part of Shaklee Corporation’s Team #Cinchspiration campaign and is now the Shaklee 180® blogger spokesperson. Maggie received free products, online support, and incentives for participating.

I have been following the Shaklee 180® Program for just over 18 months and I must say that it has been my favorite way to lose weight. I have always had a hard time sticking to a plan because I get bored with the lack of variety in products and flavors in other weight-loss programs. Lucky for me, Shaklee 180 has so many wonderful flavors and meal options that it’s almost impossible for me to get bored.

In my first six months on the program, I lost just more than 40 pounds and 30 inches*.  Over this past year I have lost another six pounds, and I’m ready to take the bull by the horns, sweat more, and lose more!

So, what does my day of my life with Shaklee 180 look like for me?

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I love to incorporate frozen fruit and almond milk in my Shaklee 180 Energizing Smoothies. They are refreshing, filling, and delicious. The best part is that I stay satiated until lunch.

Come lunchtime, most days I prefer a quick hand-shaken Café Latte Energizing Smoothie. I sit at a desk a lot of the day so having a lunch that I can consume quickly and easily wherever I am is convenient.

A bag of Sea Salt Snack Crisps dipped into a mix of 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons super spicy salsa (you can sub any salsa you want but I adore things very spicy!) makes the perfect afternoon snack. This snack is not only low in calories but it is packed with protein thanks to the Greek yogurt and Shaklee 180 Snack Crisps. This snack keeps me satisfied until dinner!
Dinner—ah, yes. This is when I get creative. Here is my very favorite cauliflower crust “pizza.” It may take a while to make but it is well worth it. The crust is free from flours/starch and loaded with veggies and nutrient-dense ingredients. Paired with roasted veggies, this meal is light, healthy, and Shaklee 180 friendly!
In addition to a healthy meal plan, exercise is key to losing weight. I like to start my day with 20 minutes of yoga to not only get my blood pumping but feel that amazing and invigorating stretch. Midafternoon, when I find myself sitting at my computer for far too long, I pop in my Just Dance 4 and get grooving for at least 15 minutes. Before I know it, I have lost track of time and found myself dancing after 35 minutes!
We would love to hear how you include Shaklee 180 in your day. Comment below and inspire others!
Results and experiences from the Shaklee 180 Program are unique for each person, so results may vary. People following the weight-loss portion of the Shaklee 180 Program can expect to lose 1-2 pounds a week.

This program is the natural and clinical weight loss program on the market. I myself have lost nearly 40 pounds and kept it off.

Have a healthy and productive week!

How is your 2014 weight loss resolution going?

Hello all,

I hope your 2014 is going great so far. Many of you started a weight loss resolution last month and might have fallen off track a little. I am here to say that a fresh start is possible everyday. First, write down you new weight loss goals and find a weight loss program that suits you, second, fine a regular exercise routine and stick with it, and third, eat healthier foods and portion your meals.

These are the three key areas that helped me maintain and successfully lose almost 40 pounds. In the beginning, it's hard, but once you get into the daily routine, it's will be easy.

There are many weight loss programs out their, but I found my success with Shaklee 180. The reason I chose Shaklee 180 is due to it's clinical's that provided me with the evidence that it is truly safe and effective when you throw your dedication into it. The non-GMO soy in the smoothies was another reason I chose Shaklee 180. I like to know what I'm putting in my body. Being low glycemic with no artificial sweeteners, colors, or preservatives is another reason I recommend Shaklee 180.

This is my choice, but if you find a program, ask them for clinically studies that their product is safe to help lose weight.

I hope you all have a healthy and productive week. ENJOY!

Pieces of a puzzle – getting to successful weight loss

If you have ever wondered what the key to successful weight loss is, you are not alone.
Weight loss and maintenance is a hard puzzle to crack. But after spending years combing the scientific literature I have what I consider to be a good solution to why some people lose weight and keep it off and others don’t.

There are three pieces of the puzzle to weight-loss success.
When people set out to lose weight, they often chose only one aspect of their lives to change. They pick a diet, they join a gym, or they buy a new bathroom scale and pledge to weigh every day. Diet, exercise, and behavior change are three complementary approaches to weight management. Can you successfully lose weight by just changing (for example) your diet? Yes, but when you add physical activity and behavior modification to the mix, you greatly increases your chances to achieve and maintain a healthier weight.

Let’s take a look each piece and see how they fit into the puzzle:

Diet: In order to lose weight you are looking to remove 500-1,000 calories a day from your diet. The biggest problem with calorie reduction is that you feel like you are losing something. The best way to achieve this reduction and not feel hungry is to eat foods that help you feel full. Low glycemic index foods are typically low in sugar and high in protein and/or fiber; the energy contained in such foods is digested and absorbed more slowly, which helps manage hunger and energy levels. Make sure when you cut calories that you are still giving your body the nutrition it needs; I like adding veggies and fruit to a protein smoothie for breakfast as part of my plan. A good multivitamin is another way to make certain you aren’t missing essential nutrients.

Physical activity: Exercise–in the broad sense of physical movement–really should be a lifelong habit. Maintaining your weight loss may very well be impossible without some form of exercise. Activities of daily living—like walking the dog–count; finding ways to take more steps each day is another good place to start. Resistance exercise is also important; it helps maintain muscle mass during weight loss, and that keeps your metabolism up. Recent research suggests that how hard you exercise matters, so pick up the intensity as you adapt to an exercise routine.

Behavior modification: When you think about it, we are all a collection of habits and our habits influence what we weigh. Behavior modification means changing what you are doing towards more healthy habits. Experts agree that setting goals, self-monitoring, and learning to deal with your specific challenges all contribute to adopting healthy habits.

On your path to losing weight, you are going to run into many challenges, but it doesn’t have to be that hard. Making small positive changes that you can stick with put you on the path to success. What small changes will you make? Share them in the comments section below.

A healthy New Year

How have your New Year resolutions gone in the past? If the results have been less than stellar, try following these steps to make them stick.

The first step is to forget the dramatic changes such as quitting your job and moving to Aruba, learning a foreign language while you sleep, or losing 50 pounds by month’s end—most of these are destined to fail.

Next, make your new year resolutions more like mild lifestyle tweaks instead of full-blown makeovers. I tend to choose small changes that also have the potential for a big health impact; that way, I am most likely to be successful—because who wants to fail?
Here is what I am committing to for 2014. Why don’t you join me and make this year your healthiest:

Go green: Eat something green with every meal. (Yes, this includes breakfast.) Try spinach, kale, broccoli, or any dark-green leafy vegetable. These vegetables are packed full of nutrition and are low calorie. Eating more greens is not only good for you, but good for the environment too! I am good at getting green veggies at lunch and dinner—so I am committing to green Energizing  Smoothees or spinach scrambled egg whites in the morning.

Stop the sugar madness: When people ask me what they should drink, I always say “just water,” that is because the largest single source of unneeded calories in your diet comes from both soda and fruit juices. See how close you can get to just drinking water.
Clean up your water: Since you are now only drinking water, you need the best. This means your water must be filtered. Bottled water is not a healthy choice. It is full of chemicals you don’t want in your body and plastic bottles are an environmental disaster. So avoid them if possible. If you want to get the whole scoop on water, check out our clean drinking water post.

Count your steps: Buy a pedometer and commit to 10,000 steps every day. I must confess to starting early on this resolution by buying a new high tech pedometer called a Fitbit® Zip™ over the Thanksgiving weekend. I haven’t had a day less than 10,000 steps and I am feeling even greater energy than usual!

Prioritize sleep: Modern life makes a good night’s sleep very difficult. (There is just too much to do!) The problem is that losing sleep makes you less smart and more forgetful, reduces your sex drive, depresses your mood, makes you crave carbohydrates, and leads to weight gain. Commit to at least seven hours of sleep every night (eight would be better) and you will see dramatic improvements in your health. I find that I feel so much better when I get at least 7 ½ hours.

Check vitamin D levels: Research on how valuable vitamin D is to our health is exploding. Vitamin D helps support bone health, maintains the immune system, is associated with maintaining brain function, and may be a factor in reducing development of chronic diseases such as arthritis. Have your doctor check your vitamin D blood level (25-hydroxy-vitamin D), and supplement (or get enough sun) until your levels are between 50-80 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml).

Along with the above, I make the following resolutions every year: Keep learning (make education a top priority) and enjoy life to the fullest! Even when I am having a stressful day, I try to find something to laugh about—since laughter is the VERY best prescription I can give you! Too often, we are bogged down with what we have to do just to get by and these two resolutions have served me well throughout my life.
Would love to hear from you about your goals! Post in the comment section and commit with me to a healthy new year.

5 easy steps to weight loss success!

I’ve spent a great deal of time over the few years helping people go from feeling helpless about their weight to feeling (and being) in control of their weight. What I have noticed is that people who are able to lose and maintain their weight use the same steps to achieve success.

Let me share with you five simple principles from the people who I’ve seen have weight loss success:

Make the Commitment:  The first step for any change in your life is to commit to that change—and it seems to work best if it is a public commitment. Permanent weight loss takes a long-term commitment (really, for the rest of your life), but it also starts with the first step. So, decide what you can bite off—maybe that is two weeks or maybe you can commit to two months. I strongly urge you to try to commit to ninety days because that is a meaningful amount of time to change some habits AND to see results!

Remove Temptation: I don’t care how strong you are; no one can resist temptations all the time. There are simply too many tasty things around when you are tempted (a bad day at the office, not enough sleep, somebody’s birthday, etc.). The time to be strong is when you are at the grocery store, not when you are standing in front of your refrigerator after dinner. Start by having a protein bar before you go grocery shopping so you aren’t hungry, take a list of what you need, and stay out of the snack aisles!

Be Realistic: Who wouldn’t want to lose all their weight in one month? The truth is that it may have taken you a while to get to your current weight and it will take time to lose that weight. Set a goal of losing one to two pounds every week, which means, on average, six to ten pounds per month! That translates to 18-30 pounds in the next ninety days. That is realistic.

Veggies are Your Friend: One type of food that most of us don’t eat enough of is vegetables. It seems unfathomable to me because vegetables are my favorite foods! They are packed with nutrition and low in calories. Make sure to include as many veggies in your diet as possible. This means every meal should include at least one serving of vegetables with at least three servings of veggies at dinner. For example, try including a salad and/or steamed or sautĂ©ed vegetables as a side dish.

Exercise: You may lose weight without exercise, but research has shown that exercise is the single most important way to keep the pounds off once you’ve done the work to lose them! Exercise will help you burn more calories and maintain your muscle mass as you lose weight. Losing muscle causes your metabolism to drop, which increases the likelihood of the weight coming back on. So, MOVE more!
From my perspective, THE single most important step to better health is weight control. I am committed to making positive changes for my health in 2014—so commit with me to move more, eat better, and be conscious of things that you do that may be counter-productive to being healthier! Even if you aren’t in need of weight loss, what you may notice from all of these changes is long-term value to your health.
Let us all commit to new habits for better health in 2014.

I did it! 172 Pounds! VICTORY!

After a year and a half, I was happy to step on the scale and say, I'm at the weight I set a goal for back in 2011. Using my Shaklee 180 Weight Loss Program and different Tony Horton Beachbody workouts, I have reached my 172 pound goal.

It wasn't easy. Some days I was tired from work, or had to work a long day, my mind would tell me I can just wait till tomorrow to do extra workouts or just skip them. You have to focus and remember the journey will be the reward in the end. I feel I will be disease free the rest of my life if I can hold this weight. I am 43 and med free at the moment and I hope to stay that way!

Now I have a new battle to maintain this weight. I don't want to get lazy and say, "ahh I am at my target weight, I can take a day or two off. I will continue to use the Shaklee 180 Weight Loss Program and the 10 minute trainer. Consistency and dedication is the key.

I feel now that it is my mission to help other with lifestyle changes and help them look at wellness as a means to be disease free. I am here to help! Contact me!

Have a great weekend!

My Story How I lost 35+ Pounds!

Good morning and happy Monday to all!  I'd like to talk a little about how I was successful losing the 35+ pounds.

It started with the Shaklee 180 Weight-Loss system and a personal battle inside myself knowing I needed a change for my body for the better. I started by making a workout plan each week and sticking to it. I went with the 10-Minute Trainer by Tony Horton because of my busy lifestyle. These 10-Minute Trainers are perfect for the busy body. I recommend 3 a day and some walking or running in the evening if you can fit it in your schedule. Set a goal on how much you want to workout or exercise each day. It isn't easy at first, but in time it will be a habit like brushing your teeth.

With my exercise routine, I incorporated the Shaklee 180 Weight-Loss Program. I started drinking my smoothie each morning often mixing organic raspberries or blueberries right in with them. They are fabulous tasting and gluten free and low glycemic. They are powered by what is called leucine, which burns your fat and keeps you lean muscle. How cool is THAT!

I would have a small snack for lunch with a piece of fruit, followed by a small dinner. It is all about portioning your food intake and making healthier choices when eating. I have chosen not to drink pop or soda and I can feel the difference.

Now I sit at 173.5 pounds feeling great and full of energy. The proof is in the picture down below. I thank Shaklee 180 for the support needed to make my turnaround. Hit me up if you think it's time for a "turnaround" in your life! :) http://weightloss180.info

Have a stupendous week and live it!

MJ
